Zisi
The only grandson of confucius, a disciple of Zeng Shen, and the traditional author of [[doctrine-of-the-mean|Zhongyong]].
The attribution is contested and always has been from within the tradition. Cui Shu (1740–1816), a Qing dynasty scholar, questioned it first; some modern scholars read parts of the text as written or edited by Confucians during the Qin–Han transition, and others hand it back to Confucius himself (doctrine-of-the-mean).
So this page names a person whose one attributed work may not be his. Worth holding as it is rather than resolving: the corpus has a parallel in meditations-on-first-philosophy, where reading the primary text showed the famous formula was not in it. A traditional attribution is a claim to check, not a fact to inherit.
