Rune — pricing
The pricing page of rune, the Go-built development environment from unstable-build. The page
is a JavaScript app with no server-rendered body; everything below was read out of its bundle
(main.780e3027.js) and <meta> tags on 2026-09-14, so the wording is the site's but the
layout is not.
The three plans
| Plan | Price | Rune Network limit | Also |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 — download under GNU GPLv3 | 2 connected nodes | community support, best-effort |
| Rune Pro | $10 / month or $100 / year | 10 connected nodes | "premium support" (private email, prioritised); "directly funds Rune's open-source development" |
| Enterprise | contact, priced by seat count | unlimited nodes | "centralized billing and admin panel"; response commitments only if the agreement says so |
Rune Network is the thing being metered: a managed, encrypted private network that connects
Rune instances across a user's machines so a workspace can be opened as rune://<machine>/,
"instead of deploying and maintaining a separate VPN". The editor itself is not gated. The FAQ
says so directly: GPLv3 permits commercial use, and "a Rune account or paid plan is not required
to exercise rights granted by GNU GPLv3". On cancellation the Pro limit and support run to the end
of the paid period, then the account drops back to 2 nodes. Fees are non-refundable; subscriptions
auto-renew at the then-current price.
A licence model that changed, still visible in the bundle
The same bundle carries an older text — "Commercial use still requires a paid license. In addition to the existing monthly and annual plans, Rune now offers a perpetual license. It includes two years of upgrades…" — beside the current FAQ that says commercial use is free. The terms reconcile them: "legacy one-time purchases" keep the premium-support period they bought, and "after that period, Rune remains available under GPLv3; the legacy purchase is not required to run, modify, build, or redistribute it." So Rune moved from a paid-for-commercial-use licence with a perpetual option to a GPLv3 editor whose paid tier sells a network service and support. The page does not date the change.
Who is selling it
unstable-build (Unstable Build LLC, "a US Limited Liability Corporation. The team works remotely."). Founder Ernest Romero Climent leads engineering; co-founder Atzarí Surinyach leads operations, brand and go-to-market. The FAQ's answer to "how do you make money" is the Pro subscription, plus a planned "contributor program that will share Unstable Build's proceeds with participating contributors" — announced, not described.
What the page does not say
Nothing about AI-model usage: Rune ships a coding agent, and the plans say nothing about included model calls, so the agent is presumably bring-your-own-key (the product pages mention "hosted models, API keys, subscriptions, gateways, and local models"). Compare the Cursor line the site's own comparison page quotes — "a limited free tier and paid individual, team, and enterprise plans. Plans include model usage" — which is the pricing model Rune's is defined against.
