Simon Willison

Independent developer and writer (co-creator of the Django web framework; creator of Datasette) whose blog simonwillison.net is a widely-read running commentary on LLMs and AI tooling. Cited here as the T2 source behind the GLM-5.2 page: he benchmarked it against the independent artificial-analysis index and probed it qualitatively. He is also the routed source for Inkling inkling-willison-review, where his read of the US open-weights ecosystem (Inkling joining NVIDIA Nemotron and Gemma 4) gave the spoke its geography-of-open-weights thread.

He recurs across the spokes as a neutral practitioner voice — e.g. the claude-fable-5 review (research-wiki) and a GPT-realtime audio writeup (speech-audio-wiki) — which is why he’s a canonical cross-wiki node rather than a plain mention. His signature qualitative probe is the “pelican on a bicycle” SVG-generation test, a recurring informal yardstick across his model reviews. The Inkling run added a twist: he fed the SVG back to the model, which described its own pelican as a “stork or seagull.”
