HHMI Janelia Research Campus
The Howard Hughes Medical Institute research campus that led the male Drosophila connectome project announced in male-fly-connectome, and whose staff did the proofreading — the step that turns an automated reconstruction into a released connectome.
Worth naming precisely because of the division of labour the post describes. Google Research supplied the segmentation models; Janelia supplied the decade of human verification and annotation. In a corpus that keeps asking who annotates (training-data-quality), this is an unusual answer: not crowdworkers and not a vendor, but expert staff at the institute that owns the science.
Thin node: one source, and nothing established here about the institute beyond its role in this project.
