[2026-07-10] split | philosophy-wiki created from _inbox (7 sources)

Spun out when the human sent a burst of philosophers: Heidegger (parked earlier as the first philosophy stray), then Spinoza + Descartes + Nietzsche completed the ≥3 cluster, followed by three ancient Stoics (dionysius-the-renegade, quintus-lucilius-balbus, attalus-stoic). No spoke owned philosophy / the humanities. Scaffolded from CLAUDE.template.md. Founding pages = 7 philosopher Person pages (url: Wikipedia, T2 tertiary) + 5 DefinedTerm concepts (western-philosophy umbrella, rationalism, mind-body-problem, nihilism, stoicism). Synthesis threads: the fate of the thinking subject (Descartes→Spinoza→Heidegger), the reach of reason (rationalism vs Nietzsche’s perspectivism), ethics as a way of life (Stoicism, echoed in Spinoza). Registry block added to wikis.md; _inbox/martin-heidegger.md deleted. Scope boundaries drawn vs research-wiki (mechanizing-reasoning/formal-logic lineage) and knowledge-representation-wiki (“ontology” CS-homonym). WebFetch hit its session limit mid-build; the Spinoza/ Descartes/Nietzsche/Stoic bios were fetched via the firecrawl skill.

[2026-07-10] ingest | Descartes · Spinoza · Nietzsche · Heidegger (founding majors)

Four Person pages. Descartes (cogito, dualism, rationalism, +Cartesian geometry noted as math not philosophy); Spinoza (substance monism Deus sive Natura, geometric method, parallelism/determinism); Nietzsche (God-is-dead/nihilism, genealogy, master–slave morality, perspectivism, will-to-power, Übermensch, eternal recurrence); Heidegger (question of Being, Dasein/being-in-the-world, later philosophy of technology; Nazi-era controversy noted). Seeded rationalism, mind-body-problem, nihilism.

[2026-07-10] ingest | Dionysius the Renegade · Quintus Lucilius Balbus · Attalus (ancient Stoics)

Three minor Roman/Greek Stoic Person pages (thin records, via Diogenes Laërtius / Cicero / Seneca). Seeded stoicism and the ancient corner; noted the Spinoza↔Stoicism (freedom-through-necessity) bridge.

[2026-08-04] ingest | Epistemology (Steup & Neta, SEP) — via research pass

The spoke’s first source page and first T1, closing growth edge #1. Every page before this one was a Thing page carrying a Wikipedia url: in frontmatter, so nothing here traced to a source the way the hub’s provenance invariant requires and there was nothing for a tier: to attach to. Hunted against the hub’s ## Most wanted entry “philosophy-wiki · first T1”; SEP entries are commissioned from specialists, refereed by a subject editor, and revised in place, which puts them over the T1 bar without argument.

Two pages: sep-epistemology (source summary, T1) and epistemology (DefinedTerm) — the latter is the referent two pages had been linking to since 2026-07-10 with nothing on the other end (rene-descartes “the ground of modern epistemology”, friedrich-nietzsche “the whole epistemological tradition”). Both links now resolve.

Integrated, not appended: rationalism is restated as a thesis about which source delivers cognitive success rather than a freestanding doctrine; Descartes’ methodic doubt is identified as the regress argument two centuries before foundationalism had the name; Nietzsche’s perspectivism is recorded as an attack on the ground both sides of the internalism/externalism dispute stand on, rather than a position within it. Growth edges re-ranked — empiricism is now the top hole, made sharper rather than created by this ingest, since rationalism has two exponents and a survey entry and its named foil has neither. New open question on the epistemology/metaphysics seam.

[2026-08-04] ingest | The Pattern and the Mind (Kriger, Medium) — Neo-Confucianism

Routed here by the hub (runner-up: none). T4 — self-published, unrefereed, book-length. The page grades it in two layers rather than as one thing, because they differ: the doctrinal and historical account (zhu-xi, wang-yangming, li/qi/xin, the school lineage) is standard and checkable, while the “persistence framework,” its five systems-theory tools and the concluding structural-law claim are the author’s own apparatus, corroborated by nothing here and not to be repeated as the field’s view.

New pages (4): the-pattern-and-the-mind (source), neo-confucianism (DefinedTerm), zhu-xi and wang-yangming (Person). The Cheng brothers, Zhou Dunyi, Shao Yong and Zhang Zai are named and deferred — mentioned in a list, no positions given, below the evidence-only bar.

Opens the spoke’s first non-Western tradition — growth edge 3’s non-Western half, present now but unsourced at the scholarly level.

Where it lands, and it is not a stretch. The Zhu Xi / Wang Yangming dispute runs on the same axis sep-epistemology laid out this morning: is the standard inside the knower or out in the world. Acquiring both within hours was luck, not method, and the pairing is the most useful thing either source did. Filed as a new open question rather than an equivalence, because two things stop them collapsing: li is normative, so Zhu Xi’s externalism commits him to morality being in things in a way no Western externalist about justification is, and the Chinese dispute had an examination system attached — “whoever administers the test owns the principle” — which gave “which account is testable” a political answer the European quarrel over universals never had.

Scope note for the human, not acted on. This spoke’s CLAUDE.md domain header says Western philosophy, while its scope boundary says to broaden toward non-Western traditions as sources arrive. The route is sanctioned by the second and in tension with the first. Recorded rather than resolved — rewriting a spoke’s domain line is a scope decision, not a router’s.

[2026-08-04] lint | scope widened — philosophy in any tradition

At the curator’s instruction, following the tension this spoke’s own files had been carrying: the CLAUDE.md domain header said the history of Western philosophy while the scope boundary at the foot of the same file listed non-Western philosophy among the directions to broaden into. The Neo-Confucian ingest earlier today arrived through the second and sat awkwardly with the first; the router flagged it rather than resolving it, because rewriting a spoke’s domain is not a routing decision.

Resolved in favour of the wider reading. No tradition is out of scope. The test is now whether a source is philosophy — an argued system about metaphysics, epistemology, ethics or being — rather than the empirical study of minds (../psychology-wiki) or the mechanization of reasoning (../research-wiki). Those two boundaries are unchanged and are the ones that actually do work.

Changed: CLAUDE.md domain header and scope boundary; hub wikis.md domain, keywords and sample-pages synced (the spoke header is the source of truth, so the registry follows it); index.md header; western-philosophy reframed.

western-philosophy is the page this cost something. It opened as “the umbrella node of this spoke,” which it can no longer be. The text is not rewritten — the branches it names are still the corpus’s working carve-up of the subject, and they travel further than the tradition does, since neo-confucianism is squarely metaphysics and ethics. A dated note records the demotion instead: “Western” now names a lineage here, not the boundary.

A rule added, not just a restriction removed. Comparison across traditions is now this spoke’s job and its standing trap, so CLAUDE.md carries the instruction: record the shared axis and what fails to carry across it. The live case is already on the books — Zhu Xi/Wang Yangming against Western internalism/externalism look like one axis, but li is normative where a Western universal merely classifies (synthesis). Never flatten one tradition into another’s vocabulary to make a comparison land.

Not changed: the founding corpus, every existing page, and the growth edges. Widening the domain closes no gap — the spoke still has one T1, twelve Wikipedia-backed pages, and its top edge is still empiricism.

[2026-08-09] ingest | Plato and Aristotle — the founders, from the SEP (via research pass)

Coverage edge 6 closed. Two T1 sources, both Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy entries, matching sep-epistemology: Richard Kraut’s Plato (2004, substantively revised April 2026) and the general Aristotle entry (2008, revised 2020).

New pages: sep-plato and sep-aristotle (source summaries), plato and aristotle (Person).

The gap was embarrassing and structural, not decorative. The corpus held Descartes, Spinoza, Nietzsche, Heidegger, the Stoic trio, Zhu Xi and Wang Yangming — and neither founder of the tradition western-philosophy narrates.

Filling it moved two of the three through-lines in synthesis rather than just adding entries. Thread 2 (the reach of reason) turns out to start with the forms, not with Cartesian method, which makes Nietzsche’s target Plato rather than Descartes. Thread 1 (the thinking subject) has a pre-modern statement: a soul separable from its body. And Aristotle gives the ancient corner an internal disagreement — univocity versus core-dependent homonymy — plus the final cause, whose rejection is what the early-modern pages were quietly built on.

Kraut’s methodological line is kept on sep-plato because it bears on how this spoke reads sources at all: “penetrating the mind of Plato and comprehending what his interlocutors mean by what they say are not two separate tasks but one.” Declining to attribute a view to a dialogue’s author is an interpretation, not neutrality.

Still tertiary in one respect: these are reference entries, not primary texts. Growth edge 5 (the founding pages rest on surveys) is unchanged for Plato and Aristotle too — no Republic, no Metaphysics read here. Edge 6’s successor names Kant as the next missing hinge.

Entities: 0 created — no publisher page for the SEP; the spoke did not create one for sep-epistemology either, and consistency beats a stub.

[2026-08-12] ingest | Kant, and two tiers that were never recorded (quality cycle)

Coverage edge 6’s successor closed. sep-kant (Michael Rohlf, SEP, first published 20 May 2010, substantive revision 31 July 2024 — T1) and immanuel-kant written from it. The corpus ran ancient → early modern → 19th-century continental with the critical turn absent while every later page leaned on it.

What the pages hold: the inversion at Bxvi (“the objects must conform to our cognition”) and its consequence at Bxviii; the transcendental deduction in the entry’s three steps — formal self-consciousness and the apperception principle (B131–132), objectivity through judgment (B141–142), one unified space-time with the understanding as “the legislation for nature” (A125–126); the appearances / things-in-themselves distinction with the two-objects and two-aspects readings both left standing, as the entry leaves them; and the practical half (the categorical imperative at 4:421, autonomy as the will being “a law to itself” at 4:440, the fact of reason at 5:31–32).

Folded into thread 2 of synthesis, which is where it earns its place. That thread held a 17th-century faith that reality is transparent to reason and its 19th-century demolition, with nothing between them, so the argument read as a reversal. Kant is the middle term: reason contributes the a priori structure and reaches no further than experience. Read forward, perspectivism is what remains when the categories stop being universal.

Recorded as a limit, not glossed. The synthetic a priori — the distinction the system rests on — is named in this entry and not worked through, and no page here quotes Kant from an edition of his own work. The successor edge is the first Critique itself.

Integrity fix. sep-plato and sep-aristotle carried source: true and no tier: — both added as T1. The spoke’s tiered count was reading 2 pages when it should have read 4, so its floor was being scored on a third of its source pages. The ## Growth edges note claiming one T1 is updated to four.
