What it establishes
- AI RMF 1.0 released January 26, 2023, “intended for voluntary use” to improve the trustworthiness of AI across design, development, use, and evaluation. The framework was in revision as of this capture.
- A companion AI RMF Playbook accompanies the core document, alongside a roadmap and crosswalks to other frameworks.
- The seven trustworthiness characteristics it organizes around (from the AI RMF resource centre): valid and reliable · safe · secure and resilient · accountable and transparent · explainable and interpretable · privacy-enhanced · fair, with harmful bias managed (airc.nist.gov).
- On July 26, 2024 NIST released NIST-AI-600-1, Artificial Intelligence Risk Management Framework: Generative Artificial Intelligence Profile — a profile helping organizations identify and manage risks specific to generative AI.
