Chesky Audio LC2 reference monitor
The Chesky Audio LC2 is a ~$1,995/pair reference bookshelf loudspeaker by Chesky Audio (Lucca Chesky), reviewed by Future Audiophile — the wiki’s first commercial finished loudspeaker, and a useful real-world instance of the enclosure and driver concepts. It’s the second-generation design after the LC1, at roughly double the price (~13″ × 8.5″ × 12.5″, 30 lb each).
The design bet: the cabinet
Its signature is the 3D-printed, double-walled, acoustically-inert composite cabinet — the maker’s core technology. The reviewer’s knuckle “knock test” reports no resonance, echo, or hollowness, which is the point: the cabinet attacks the “cabinet as a second instrument” problem (a box that resonates undoes a good alignment) with material and geometry rather than MDF mass. A 5/8″ solid aluminum baffle bolted to the cabinet further stiffens the driver mounting.
Drivers and loading
- Tweeter: 1⅛″ dual-chamber aperiodic low-distortion dome, ringed by an embossed “flying V” pattern for tessellation diffraction control.
- Midrange: ~6.5″ with a cast basket and tri-laminate cone + poly dust cap (the reviewer notes cast baskets are usually above entry/mid tier, where stamped steel is the norm).
- Bass: a reworked 7″ woofer plus twin 8″ passive radiators — a passive- radiator alignment (not a ported box), rated down to 40 Hz.
The load it wants
Rated 4 Ω but 86 dB @ 2.83 V/1 m — slightly inefficient, so the reviewer found it “craving power”: adequate on a 50 W receiver, much bigger on a 110 W/4 Ω integrated. A concrete reminder that sensitivity and impedance, not wattage, decide whether an amp suits a speaker. Finishes: black or silver; shown at Axpona 2026.
Tier / caveats
T3 — a single subjective enthusiast review (listening impressions, a knuckle “knock test”), no anechoic or gated measurements; the specs are the maker’s, the sound verdicts the reviewer’s. It grounds the concepts with a real product but does not bring measured evidence to the spoke’s predictive thesis (see synthesis tension).
