Electronic Arts
The American video-game publisher behind the Command & Conquer series. It enters this wiki not as
an engine maker but as a licensor: OpenTS is built from "Electronic Arts' GPL-released
source for related Command & Conquer games," and its LICENSE.md carries additional GPL Section 7
terms that ride along with the EA-derived files. Discovered while ingesting opents.
OpenTS's licence names the specific release: material derived from "the source code for Command & Conquer Red Alert, which Electronic Arts Inc. released under that same license." That makes EA the first publisher in this wiki to have put a shipped commercial game's source under the GPL, which is a different act from the permissive open-sourcing this corpus has otherwise recorded — CCP released Carbon under MIT, Amazon's Lumberyard became Apache/MIT O3DE. A GPL release constrains what a reconstruction may become; an MIT release does not. OpenTS is GPLv3 in part because of this decision.
EA is not affiliated with or endorsing OpenTS, which the project states plainly, and OpenTS distributes none of the game data — a player must own the original.
