The pitch is integration
The design argument is analog integration: pull the precision ADC, the analog front end, and the amplifier onto the die, replacing the usual arrangement of a cheap MCU plus an external precision ADC plus a discrete amp. What that buys is fewer components and less board area for designs that are simultaneously cost-sensitive and accuracy-critical — blood-pressure monitors, precision scales, measurement instruments. Metrology, in other words, not connectivity.
Two things this pins down for the spoke. Mixed-signal integration is the axis MCU vendors compete on at the low end, not clock speed: the interesting spec is what analog the die swallowed. And the Cortex-M family is the substrate underneath most of it (microcontroller).
What it is not
The Class-D “voice output” synthesizes device prompts; it isn’t audio capture or sound-making, and
the 24-bit ADC is a measurement front end, not a microphone input. That distinction is why this
source declined ../music-tech-wiki and ../loudspeaker-design-wiki while it sat in the holding
pen, and it holds now: purpose, not signal type, decides the routing.
