Autodafe
Milan-based one-person music-software operation behind VES. The GitHub
account is antoniograzioli, its display name is "Autodafe", and its stated blog is autodafe.net —
maker and brand are the same person, who describes himself as a "Synth and Computer Geek. Maybe not a
100% coder but I know my way around."
The business model is worth recording because the spoke has not seen it before: the source is AGPL and the builds are sold. VES's code, its patch series against MAME and its build documentation are all public; the compiled plug-in and the user guide are a paid download from autodafe.net. Nothing is withheld from the repository to make that work — the lever is that building a JUCE plug-in with a patched MAME tree across four platforms is enough work that most musicians will pay instead.
