Writer of space-daily‘s “Mind & Meaning” essays, and the author of two sources here: kahneman-focusing-illusion (2026-07-23) and epictetus-learning-spacedaily (2026-08-08). Paged on the second one, per the recurrence rule in ../ENTITIES.md.

Both pieces are built the same way, and after two the method is describable rather than incidental:

1. Open on a compressed saying — Kahneman’s “fortune-cookie maxim,” a line from Epictetus.
2. Put two empirical findings underneath it, named with researchers and years.
3. End on a diagnostic the reader can run, not an exhortation. What am I not thinking about? in the first; explain it without looking anything up in the second.

The step that earns him a page is the third. This genre normally closes by telling the reader to be humbler or calmer; both of these close by handing over a test, and in the Epictetus piece the test is a lay version of the actual experimental paradigm being described.

On accuracy, two for two so far. The Epictetus essay reports the Dunning-Kruger reassessment rather than the folk version, citing Eric Gaze in Scientific American against the dramatized reading — notable because a daily inspirational column is the genre most likely to repeat the myth (dunning-kruger-misread).

The standing weakness is the genre’s, not his alone: every study arrives at second hand, usually with authors and a year but no title or venue, so nothing he reports is easy to go and check. Both sources sit at T3 for that reason.
