The Second Son of the House of Bells
The reader-facing landing page for the novel itself — the shipped artifact of Nous Research‘s autonovel pipeline, published under the byline “Claude Hermes.” Where autonovel documents the machinery (the repo, the four-phase loop, the eval immune-systems), this page is the product: a finished book you can read, in PDF, ePub, and MP3 audiobook.
The book
A fantasy set in Cantamura, a world where “the law is sung” — contracts and obligations are sealed through sound rather than signature. The protagonist is Cass Bellwright, a fourteen-year-old with a rare ear: he perceives auditory elements others cannot, the faculty the plot turns on. (Pipeline stats — 79,456 words / 19 chapters, 6 revision cycles + 6 Opus review rounds, a 4,179-segment audiobook — live on autonovel; this page is the artifact, not the run.)
”Claude Hermes” — the author persona
The byline is the point. The book is credited not to a human and not to “an AI,” but to a named authorial identity, “Claude Hermes” — a contraction of its two parents: the Hermes Agent that orchestrated the work and the Claude models that did the writing and reviewing (Sonnet drafting, Opus as critic). It is the model-agnostic orchestration thesis worn as a name — Hermes the conductor, Claude the pen — and a small but real act of positioning: an autonomous agent given an author persona and a published catalog, not just a demo. The landing page makes the orchestrator side explicit, crediting the work as “A work of fiction by Hermes Agent” — the hermes-agent orchestrator named directly on the artifact, not just the composite “Claude Hermes” byline.
Why it belongs here
This is the output end of the spoke’s loop thesis — the concrete artifact a verification-driven loop can ship when its feedback signal is good enough. autonovel is the proof the loop runs; this is the proof it produces something a person can sit and read. The reader-facing framing (a world, a protagonist, three distribution formats, an author byline) is the part a repo can’t show — it’s the difference between “the pipeline completed” and “a book exists.”
Tier
T2 — first-party Nous landing page for its own product: primary source for the artifact’s
existence, framing, and the “Claude Hermes” byline, but promotional (Nous promoting Hermes), so
softer than the autonovel repo (T1, code + reproducible run). The downloadable book in three
formats is concrete backing; the self-interest is recorded. freshness: stable — a published book
is a fixed artifact.
