Advances in Experimental Medicine and Biology
Springer's long-running biomedical book series, in which each numbered volume is an edited collection of review chapters on one theme. Discovered while ingesting lewis-borrelli-reward-2021, which is chapter 4 of volume 1344, Circadian Clock in Brain Health and Disease (eds. Olivia Engmann and Marco Brancaccio, 2021).
The first peer-reviewed venue node in this spoke, and it exists to record a distinction the rest
of the corpus has been getting wrong by omission. Every other publisher node here —
the-marginalian, space-daily, silicon-canals, psychology-today — is a
NewsMediaOrganization whose pieces cap at T3. This is a series of peer-reviewed chapters, so its
contents reach T1. But the two share one property that matters more than the tier gap: neither
publishes new data. An essayist summarizing a study and a specialist reviewing a literature are
both transmitting someone else's evidence, and a citation is the only difference — a large one,
because it is checkable, and not the same thing as having measured something.
Which is why the volume title sits on this page rather than in the source's metadata. A chapter in an edited themed volume inherits its scope from the editors' brief, and readers who arrive by the chapter title alone will not see that brief. That is what happened here: "The Brain's Reward System in Health and Disease" is a chronobiology chapter because it is chapter 4 of a chronobiology book.
