Alexis Carrel

French-born surgeon and biologist, awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1912 (Nobel Prize organisation's facts page, checked for year and field only). Held here as the author of man-the-unknown-carrel-1935, whose title page bills him as "Nobel Prize Winner."

What this wiki knows of him comes from that book alone. It shows a laboratory scientist writing outside his field: a call for a science of the whole human being, a 1930s argument that the physical sciences had outrun the human ones, and an open case for eugenics as a social remedy. The specialist-bias remark that professional-deformation quotes is one sentence of that argument. The book's own pages record his backing of eugenics and are summarised, with page references, on the source page.

His wider career and later politics are not covered by any source read here. They are left out on purpose rather than filled in from memory; a source on his life would justify extending this page.
