MonoGame Foundation

The MonoGame Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit (EIN 93-3803929) that owns and develops MonoGame, the open-source C#/.NET game framework. Its stewardship guarantees the framework’s “free forever, no fees” promise: no subscription, royalty, licensing, or runtime cost, with source under the Microsoft Public License on GitHub.

It’s the spoke’s third foundation-governed engine steward, alongside the Godot Foundation and the Linux Foundation behind O3DE — the recurring FOSS pattern where a nonprofit, rather than a company, holds an engine’s source and trademarks and keeps it non-commercial. Here the model also carries a discontinued framework forward: the Foundation is what institutionally sustains the XNA lineage now that Microsoft no longer does.
