Springer
Academic publisher, and the first publisher node in this spoke to carry two of its books — lal-algebra-1 (2017, commercial: $49.99 eBook / $89.99 hardcover) and herzog-understanding-statistics (2019, open access under CC BY-NC). Discovered while ingesting the former.
The pair is useful rather than incidental: the same publisher sits at both ends of the corpus’s access axis, so “published by Springer” says nothing about whether a reader can get to the book. Access is a per-title decision, not a house policy.
A third title, and the axis holds (2026-08-10). carroll-geometric-function-theory lands in the middle of the access spread rather than at either end: a conventionally priced 2024 textbook, neither paywalled-behind-a-monograph-price like lal-algebra-1 nor open access like herzog-understanding-statistics. Three titles, three access positions, one publisher — which is the per-title claim above, now with a middle term.
