Dillon Bastan Beast Repeat

A free Max for Live (M4L) device by dillon-bastan that rebuilds and greatly expands Ableton Live’s stock Beat Repeat — a beat-repeat / glitch / stutter effect that rhythmically chops and repeats audio (ratchets, randomized fills, vocal mangling). An audio-effect-plugin, but in the M4L format rather than VST3/AU: it runs inside Ableton and needs Live 10+ with a Max for Live license.

What it adds over stock Beat Repeat

• Triggering: chance-based repeats with adjustable intervals, a manual force button, and a “variation knob” (with selectable modes) that injects unpredictability.
• Playback engine: grid-controlled repeat length; forward/backward/random directions; pitch-shifting (not in the original); FFT/overlap speed-keeping; granular and phase-vocoder stretching.
• Sound shaping: decay applied across many parameters (up and down), stepped/boomerang decay curves, a per-repeat width gate, fades, and five built-in effects (sample redux, panning, 3-mode filter, formant, overdrive).
• Workflow: an eight-slot snapshot system for saving/automating parameter states, plus a “spray” randomizer and per-repeat envelopes.

Where it sits

Another free effect given away to build an audience (see audio-effect-plugin and synthesis), and the spoke’s first Max for Live source — a distinct format from the standalone plugins (shinronin, next-oxx): a device built in Max, tied to the Ableton host.
