Nextlight Next OXX

A free multiband compressor plugin from Nextlight, a Tokyo-based electronic-music label, modelled on the classic OTT preset that shipped in Ableton Live 8. An audio-effect-plugin for the production/mixing end of the chain rather than a sound source.

OTT-style multiband compression

OTT applies upward and downward compression simultaneously across frequency bands — it lifts quiet detail and tames loud peaks per band at once, producing the aggressive, “in-your-face” sound associated with dubstep and drum & bass. Next OXX aims to keep “the same up-front, aggressive character of the original OTT, while suppressing unnecessary noise/roughness” — i.e. the OTT effect with fewer artifacts when pushed hard.
