The Pure Data patches ship as DAW plugins
The Pd section’s instruction is the technically interesting part: download plugdata (plugdata.org, free) and the patches “run as plugins directly inside your digital audio workstation.” So the patches are not standalone-Pd artifacts — plugdata wraps them into a format a DAW can host, which is what lets a Pd patch and a Max for Live device sit side by side on the same page as comparable products (patching-environment).
Both Pd patches are granular, one of them an LFO built to modulate the other — a two-part patch set rather than two independent tools.
Device names as a description
With no documentation anywhere, the names are the only evidence of what the M4L collection does, and they cluster: Generative, Oblique Strategies (Eno and Schmidt’s card deck, so chance-based prompting), Vectordrone, Iceberg, Sweetspace, Broken Sphere — ambient, generative, and texture tools rather than mixing or corrective ones. Tetraligeti points at Ligeti, Irrational Delay and Loop Paradox at time manipulation. That matches his stated practice: theatre and cinema scoring using “MIDI, texture ambient and dreamy atmosphere.”
The gap
No device is documented. The M4L index page carries names and download links and nothing else — no description, no price, no Live/Max version requirement, no screenshots. Whether the 13 (or the full eight pages) are free is not stated anywhere the fetch could reach; only the two Pd patches are explicitly free. So the inventory is solid first-party fact and everything about what any individual device does is inference from its name. A per-device page would settle it.
