Identity (SocaLabs)

Identity is a free polyphonic synth by socalabs, entered in the KVR Developer Challenge 2026. Its distinguishing feature is a pair of formula oscillators — waveshapes defined by editable math expressions rather than fixed geometry — which the BPB roundup frames as packing a lot of sound-design range into a manageable panel.

Architecture

  • Two formula oscillators, a sub-oscillator, and a white/pink noise generator.
  • Four MSEG LFOs, two multi-mode filters (each with its own envelope), three modulation envelopes, and a multi-mode modulation matrix — again the routing-defines-character pattern.
  • A built-in arpeggiator and seven reorderable effects (gate, chorus, distortion, delay, and more).
  • Per-voice vibrato, analog drift, and MPE support — the expressiveness angle that most sets it apart in the roundup.

Available in AU, VST3, LV2, and CLAP for macOS, Windows, and Linux. Source is a press roundup (T3). The generic product name is disambiguated here as “Identity (SocaLabs).”
